Fatty acids composition in seeds of the South American glasswort Sarcocornia ambigua Anais da ABC (AABC)
D'oca,Marcelo G.M.; Morón-Villarreyes,Joaquín A.; Lemões,Juliana S.; Costa,César S.B..
Sarcocornia ambigua (Michx.) M.A. Alonso & M.B. Crespo is the most widely distributed species of the perennial genus of glasswort in South America, and it shows great biotechnological potential as a salt-water irrigated crop. Qualitative and quantitative compositions of fatty acids were determined in the seeds of S. ambigua that were cultivated in southern Brazil. Hexane extraction of the seed oil from S. ambigua yielded 13% of total lipids. The GC-FID (Gas Chromatography Flame Ionization Detector) analysis of the hexane extracts showed five prominent peaks for the seed oil: 42.9 wt.% linoleic-Ω6 acid (18:2), 20.4 wt.% palmitic acid (16:0), 18.5 wt.% oleic acid (18:1), 4.5 wt.% stearic acid (18:0) and 4.0 wt.% linolenic-Ω3 acid (18:3). The sum of...

Hay Price Forecasts at the State Level AgEcon
Diersen, Matthew A..
Higher prices for major crops (e.g., corn, soybeans and wheat) have received considerable attention by analysts, researchers, and producers. A common perception is that acres can be readily bid away from other crops to quickly return to equilibrium price levels. Seldom mentioned are crops that do not trade on a national platform. Principal among these crops probably would be hay from alfalfa and grass. A balance sheet model is developed at the state level for South Dakota. As a state with typically large carryover stocks of hay and multiple markets served, South Dakota presents a stark contrast to states with more stable production, supply, and use. Several structural relations and equations are presented to forecast acres, supply, and price through an...

Surface Application of Lime on a Guava Orchard in Production Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Corrêa,Márcio Cleber de Medeiros; Natale,William; Prado,Renato de Mello; Banzatto,David Ariovaldo; Queiroz,Ronialison Fernandes; Silva,Marcos Antonio Camacho da.
ABSTRACT Several complications can arise, either directly or indirectly, from implementation of measures to correct soil acidity in established fruit orchards, such as impaired roots, lower root volume, risk of plant infection, propagation of diseases, promotion of pest development (especially nematodes), and soil disaggregation and compaction. These factors can have a negative effect on crop yield. Therefore, it becomes critical to implement an effective method of neutralizing soil acidity, especially at the level of the tree roots. To assess the effect that the rates and forms of limestone applied on the soil surface have on soil fertility and on nutrition and yield of guava, an experiment was conducted in a commercial orchard. A randomized block...

The 15N isotope to evaluate fertilizer nitrogen absorption efficiency by the coffee plant Anais da ABC (AABC)
Fenilli,Tatiele A.B.; Reichart,Klaus; Bacchi,Osny O.S.; Trivelin,Paulo C.O.; Dourado-Neto,Durval.
The use of the 15N label for agronomic research involving nitrogen (N) cycling and the fate of fertilizer-N is well established, however, in the case of long term experimentation with perennial crops like citrus, coffee and rubber tree, there are still shortcomings mainly due to large plant size, sampling procedures, detection levels and interferences on the system. This report tries to contribute methodologically to the design and development of 15N labeled fertilizer experiments, using as an example a coffee crop fertilized with 15N labeled ammonium sulfate, which was followed for two years. The N of the plant derived from the fertilizer was studied in the different parts of the coffee plant in order to evaluate its distribution within the plant and the...
